Next Meet the Doctors

I am so excited to present to all of you a book that was written by my dear friend, Shani Thornton. She is a child life expert who is also going to be offering some seminars in our wellness center in the next few months. The book is entitled "Time For You Checkup". It is a book she wrote to help prepare children and families for what will occur at a doctor visit. All of the photographs in the book are of our office and of me being the doctor. Both my daughters, my husband, Shani and her sons are in the book as well. There will be copies of this book in the waiting rooms to help kids prepare for their visits. If you want to get the book in advance, it is available in paper and kindle on Amazon. At Happy and Healthy Pediatrics we are very concerned about having the children in our practice have a positive experience here during their visits. Visit this link for more information and details on how to get your very own book:

NEW: Flu Vaccine Update and CANCELLATION of our flu clinic

Unfortunately, all of the flu vaccines are on back order. This is true for the flu shots and the flu mist. This affects everyone in the region, not just our practice. This also applies to other companies who supply the flu vaccine, not just the one we order from. Shipments that we thought were coming in soon will not be arriving until late November.

If your child has a history of wheezing or asthma, please call the office ASAP to make an appointment for the flu shot. We want to prioritize the children in our practice who run the highest risk of complications from getting the flu. We can no longer give the flu vaccine to adults due to lack of supply.

As of now, we are CANCELLING our flu clinic that was scheduled for October 25th. We will reschedule when we know we have enough vaccines in stock.

We have a good amount of preservative free flu shots for children less than the age of 3 years. We have less than 30 doses of the preservative free flu shot for children > 3 years of age available; we still have flu mist for children 2 and up who are not asthmatic.

We have ordered flu vaccine which is quadrivalent (protects against 4 strains which is also true of the flu vaccines we have in stock now) and has preservative (which is different than the flu vaccines we have in stock currently, which are preservative free). We also ordered some trivalent (protects against 3 strains of the flu) vaccines for the adults (not recommended for children)-these are the same vaccines that CVS and Walgreens have and these, too, contain preservative. We will notify you when these vaccines arrive.

Our office always acquires preservative free vaccines when possible, but under the circumstances, having the ability to protect more people seemed the priority. Also, no adverse effects have ever been reported by the preservative-so, weighing risks vs benefits, if no other flu vaccines are available, these may become the only available option.

In an effort to better accommodate everyone by appointment, we have extended our evening hours for flu vaccine administration:

The schedule for flu vaccine appointments with a nurse is as follows:
Monday: 3pm-7pm
Wednesday: 9am-7pm
Thursday: 9am-5pm
Friday: 10am-3pm

Thank you for your understanding.
